Here’s some #MondayMotivation to start the week off right.

Having you been feeling sluggish at work? Is it hard to stay focuses through your long meetings? Does lunch time not come soon enough for you? Eating a better breakfast could be the answer to your problems!

September is National Better Breakfast Month and, while it isn’t quite as exciting as National Ice Cream Day, the importance of eating a nutritious breakfast cannot be understated.  Breakfast has been proven to have many benefits for both your long-term health and brain function during the day.

Mental Performance

Enjoying a healthy breakfast in the morning restores glucose levels that have dropped overnight. Glucose is a carbohydrate that is essential for your brain to function.  Eating in the morning has also been shown to stabilize your blood sugar which leads to improved memory and concentration levels.  Having your brain well fed and ready to go can improve your performance throughout the day in school, meetings, or even simple day-to-day activities.

Weight Management

Eating breakfast has been proven to jumpstart your metabolism after it slows down during the night.  If you wait until lunchtime to eat, your metabolism won’t start fully firing until hours after you have begun your day.  Additionally, a substantial breakfast helps prevent overeating later in the day and helps to reduce unhealthy cravings.

Long Term Health

Studies have shown that eating a nutritious breakfast helps to reduce the risk of obesity and related health problems.  Consistent breakfast eaters have a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes in women and heart disease in men.  It is also proven that regular breakfast eaters have lower cholesterol than those who regularly skip the meal.

Although there are many breakfast options, a healthy breakfast should typically include fruit, protein, carbohydrates, and be limited in sugars.  Eating a morning meal does not have to add extra time to your morning routine, either.  There are numerous options for people looking to make a quick meal in the morning.

Many people enjoy a bowl of cereal for breakfast because of the low time commitment.  If you go this route, consider one that is low and sugar and high in fiber, such as Wheaties or Special K.  Another great breakfast is a yogurt parfait.  These are quick to make and perfect for a morning when you are low on time.  Just add plain Greek yogurt to a bowl and mix it with fresh berries and granola.

Even, if preparing a meal at home seems a bit strenuous for an early morning, there are still options to be had.  Nova Place offers a variety of quick breakfast options for you to enjoy.  Eco Bistro offers many breakfast items all made from fresh, non-processed ingredients.  Their options include breakfast sandwiches, eggs, pancakes, and more! City Fresh Pasta also provides you with breakfast sandwiches loaded nutrient dense ingredients, such as eggs and avocado.

Step up to the challenge and make it your goal to get healthy and make breakfast a daily part of your routine this month.  When you do, share your delicious breakfast with us on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #BetterBreakfastMonth.
