Doors Open Pittsburgh is exactly what it advertises – for two days only, some of Pittsburgh’s most interesting, beautiful, and impressive buildings will open their doors for tours. While tickets are required for entry into the participating buildings, the affordable cost ($12 for a 2-day pass or $8 for a 1-day pass) allows you to visit as many buildings as you desire.
On October 7th and 8th you have the opportunity to explore various buildings Downtown, in the North Side, and in the Strip District, at the second annual Doors Open Pittsburgh (DOP). You can decide which buildings you want to explore, make a list, and go! This two-day celebration of Pittsburgh’s unique architecture, numerous museums, bustling office complexes, and more gives people the opportunity to tour spaces that they wouldn’t normally visit.
While DOP is a relatively new concept in Pittsburgh, this event mirrors the Doors Open/Open House movement that actually got its start in Europe in 1984. Now, over 40+ European cities present this event, and only eight other US cities present a Doors Open concept event. Pittsburgh is one of the US cities pioneering this event, and for the first time, Nova Place will be featured at DOP!
On Saturday, October 7th only, you’ll have the chance to see the ins and outs of Nova Place, including Alloy 26. Nova Place is proud to support this organization, as one of the iconic buildings in the collection. For a look at the other participating buildings, please visit the Doors Open Pittsburgh website, or click this link: http://doorsopenpgh.org/sites/
During DOP, you not only have the opportunity to tour the buildings, but you can also volunteer as a greeter, docent, and floater during the event. All volunteers receive a cool DOP t-shirt, free admission for you and a guest to DOP 2017 with front-line privileges and an invite to the event party!
